Hmm... Was Ms. Gwen Stefani inspired by Momiji dolls when she created her Harajuku Lovers perfume dolls, or what? They're just as dazzle-darling cute and live up to Harajuku Lovers' tagline: "A Fatal Attraction to Cuteness."
Oooh... For those who aren't up to speed: "Harajuku Lovers is singer Gwen Stefani's brand of apparel, fashion accessories, and stationery launched in 2005. The concept for Harajuku Lovers revolves around the Shibuya, Tokyo area of Harajuku and the four 'Harajuku Girls,' Gwen Stefani's Japanese back-up dancers and entourage (Love, Angel, Music, and Baby)." Well, that's the ditty from Wikipedia, but basically Harajuku Lovers is Gwen Stefani's homage to Hello Kitty. So now that you know...
Each of the five Harajuku Lovers perfume dolls has its own scent and comes in 1.0oz and 0.33oz sizes, ranging from $25-$45. We think they're perfect for frou-frous and holiday gifts, even as collectibles for pop culture buffs. You also may be lucky to find a special Harajuku Lovers perfume gift set with all five included, if you want to drop a small bundle. Tease your nose with aromatic descriptives below:
Love - sensuous floral notes with pink peonies, delicate paperwhites, rose and sensuous musk
Lil' Angel - fruity floral notes with juicy rasberry, lush pear blossom and warm hinoki woods
Music - delicate floral notes with sparkling clementine, sweetpea, honeysuckle and creamy vanilla
Baby - powdery musk notes with sparking bergamot, tiare flower, jasmine petals and soft white musk
G - modern gourmand notes with fresh coconut, jasmine, magnolia and sexy woods

We're still having fun rounding up our picks for this year's prettiest games, but we wanted to give you a snimpse of another one of our finds: the game Sputnik. For a sci-fi-themed tabletop game, it's rather stylistically cute! It's sci-fab!
Here's the descriptive ditty from KB Toys: "The object of Sputnik is to put the opponent's rocket out of action by preventing lift off. Per turn, the players must move their rocket to an adjacent 'galaxy.' As the galaxies dwindle in number and disappear from the board, one rocket will eventually get stranded and not be able to take off. Careful thought and planning will launch the winner! This family game is for two players and takes about 20 minutes to play."

While making our gift lists and delighting them twice, we found another cool and bejeweling gift that just smacks of whimsy. The colorful Play and Freeze Ice Cream Balls are a cutefully clever twist on the standard, fuss-free ice cream makers. They come in nine colors and two sizes, quart or pint. You also can buy Play and Freeze Fountain Flavors to help in your icy sweet creations. And, we must note, although they are fantastic gifts for kids, we must admit... um... we adore them even more as cocktail shakers. What a fabulous way to color code your frozen margaritas! Below is the ditty from Amazon:
"With the unique Play and Freeze Ice Cream Maker, you can make ice cream while on camping trips, at picnics, barbecues, and many other places. You don't need electricity to make great tasting ice cream, but rather just add ice and rock salt in one end and ice cream mix in the other end. Then, have a ball as you shake it, pass it, or roll it around for 10 to 15 minutes. The ice cream mix can be as simple as cream, sugar, and vanilla or you can try a more adventurous flavor from the included recipe list or make up your own concoction. Made of durable polycarbonate, the Ice Cream Ball is lightweight, portable, and easy to clean."

We couldn't be more delighted, as we've just started making our rounds to find the prettiest toys for the holiday season. While on our initial pretty runs this past weekend, we were quite surprised to see a few toy stores already bustling with moms and dads -- even in the midst of this fugly "economic crisis." Well, we're hopeful. Think pretty things, and pretty things will come.
Anyway, we've been rounding up a pretty list for y'all, but wanted to share a find that tickled us for its simplicity and authentic cuteness. The Safari Undercover Game is just a simple puzzle, but it's the kind that's great to rear little geniuses. Remember, the earlier kiddies master simple abstract concepts, the prettier of a start they'll have for stacking their smarts. Below is the ditty from KB Toys, where you can buy the game:
"Safari Undercover Game: Ready to embark on an undercover jungle safari? In each brain-teasing logic game, you must arrange the four jungle pieces on the animal-filled game board so that only specific animals remain out in the open. Sound easy? You'll need to stretch your spatial-reasoning and logical-thinking muscles for these wild puzzlers. Each challenge has hundreds of possible puzzle-piece combinations, but only one solution. The full-color puzzle booklet includes 48 multi-level challenges, ranging from beginner to advanced. The game board doubles as a storage case for the four puzzle pieces and 48-page game booklet, so you can safari just about anywhere! Safari Undercover Game Puzzles by Educational Insights Inc. Ages 4-12."

We just found another pretty children's book to add to our list, 'Drummer Boy' by the wonderful illustrator Loren Long. It's an updated take on the classic story 'The Little Drummer Boy,' and the pictures of fabulously done.
Here's the ditty: "In a wintry little town, a drummer boy appears on a child's doorstep. And when it is still and quiet, the drummer boy plays, boom pum pum boom pum, and warms the child's heart. But one day the drummer boy is accidentally knocked into the trash, sending him on a journey he never imagined--a journey on which he continues to play his drum, warming the hearts of others, from a rat to an owl to a snowman. And in a touching conclusion, his own heart is warmed as he plays to his most perfect audience: the baby in a manger."

Finally, the fake cobwebs and cheapie-fugly animatronic witch heads are being wiped off the shelves to make way for happier holidays. We couldn't be more delighted. So we've already started our holiday shopping. Haven't you? Ha! Well, we should clarify. We've already started our holiday shopping for holiday crafting and decorating.
On our quest for more holiday ideas, we came across a new site -- clearancebooks.com -- that has a considerable collection of discounted books for hobbyists, artists and crafty types. We did a quick spot check on the prices, too, and we discovered that all the titles are priced an average of 25% lower than even the lowest sales price you'd find on Amazon for the exact same titles. Not bad, eh? So it's worth giving a look-see. You never what you'll find as they add more titles.
Our favorite find is "R Is for Rose," which is just a pretty coffee table book featuring one breed of rose for each letter of the alphabet. We plopped in a few other pretty finds below.

Halloween and all the entrapments of costumed fugment and indiscriminate fug-glorified festoons are nearly behind us! So on to Christmas, the prettiest holiday of them all!
We love to kick off the festive season by snagging the prettiest holiday cards... early! This year, we loaded up the beautiful pop-up cards from the Museum of Modern Art, including several designed by Robert Sabuda
, the pop-up book master.
One of our favorites is the Christmas Village pictured above, which tastefully fits it into anyone's decor or holiday sensibility. We also love the idea of giving them to kids so they can color or decorate the village themselves, with either paint, crayons, markers, glitter or whatever artsy flair they desire. Personalizing a card just emanates positively spirited prettiment.

Ooh! We're so delighted! The 2008 Twinkle Limited Edition Christmas Momiji doll just came out, and we expect it to sell out soon.
"Your heart has a happy twinkle that keeps me always cozy. Twinkle likes bed socks and getting lost in a book. Each doll comes in a tin box with its own collectors card. Inside the base of each doll there's a tiny card to write a teeny message. Taking orders now. When she's gone she's gone forever!"
Here's our ditty from last year, to catch you up on the Momiji madness: The gift-giving season is already heavily upon us, and for some finding spirited frou-frous for a nearly unlimited list of what-do-I-get who-whos can be enough to put anyone in a Grinch pinch. If you're looking for that little extra gift that simply needs to be just that -- little and extra -- we found meaningful, cute dolls fit for well-wishing as good luck charms. Modeled after traditional Japanese kokeshi dolls -- which are tokens of love and good fortune thought to ward off evil spirits -- collectible Momiji friendship dolls make delightful little gifts for hostesses and friends, especially during the holidays. You can choose a perfect match for your recipient from the many designs, each with its own personality and message, like "Your soul is a good one, I know when it shines in your eyes." or "The memories of us brings me giggles!" You also can write your own secret message and slip it inside the doll.
Every Momiji comes with a heart sticker, collector's card and a small postcard in a ribbon-tied bag. They cost about $11.95 (limited edition momiji cost more), while traditional kokeshi run $65 and up. Our favorite Momiji is Giggles
. We love the hint of sass behind that smirk.

Ah, the days of pre-school -- and pre-cool toys. Remember those peg people who were doomed to drive their clunky block cars around and around the same wooden track, ad infinitum? Little did we know it was an early lesson about the oppressive power of fug. How? Please, if those little peg people had prettier vehicles they would have sped off that track to prettier, slightly older kids' playrooms, where the Barbies have poolside barbecues and My Little Ponies run wild.
Now a new generation of peglike people are free to cruise in style wherever they so please, courtesy of Automoblox. Combining the old-fashioned quality of hand-carved wooden toys with modern style and modularity, Automoblox has created retro-pretty toy cars with parts that kids can mix and match from several models. Accessories and moving parts come in a rainbow of colors, fit for boys or girls. Currently, the chassis only come in beechwood, but we're hoping future options will include painted chassis along with vanity plates. Our tags would be: PRETTYME.
You can register your car's unique Vehicle Identification Number online and join the Automoblox Owners Club, which entitles you to free decals and access to buy limited edition models. Now isn't that clever -- pretty clever.

Hi,
Yeah, Automoblox are really cool. Glad to see you found them. The pink one you show though is a limited run and has already been sold out...most retailers are out already! You can still find some online, but they are going quick.
They also have mini's coming out which are a bit cheaper. You can get them at www.schooldelay.com. That is where I ordered mine from. They are expected to be released this month!
